The heart of Perama hits next to the sea, in the shipyard repair zone. Where the inhabitants have devoted their lives to work in yards. Where refugees, breadwinners and ‘rebetes’ wrote their story next to the boats. Today, Greek and foreign workers, shipmakers, blacksmiths, welders, electricians, paintbrushes, engineers, continue to give their soul to the shipyard.
During this workshop, the participants will explore this bustling world, photographing along the zone, with exclusive access to its yards and intermediate stops at workhalls and historical and photographic points. In this way they will gather strong moments of the worker’s brutal daily routine and will capture the intensity and atmosphere of the yards in their own way.
Under the guidance of Nick Paleologos, they will learn how to move on a difficult field, how to highlight the characteristics and the peculiarities of the environment and people to create images that compel the tradition and the history of the place. The second day the photos taken will be presented to the class for analysis and criticism so that each student will leave having created his own approach to this particular subject.
