Thodoris Nikolaou has traveled many kilometers around Omonia, photographing the myriad stories that are born and die there, crammed into old buildings, fused sidewalks and fleeting encounters. It’s a tough world but untold. In this particular site the workshop participants will be called upon to capture the truth of those who live in public view, fighting for their every day in this city.
The purpose of this documentary workshop is to understand concepts such as story telling, journalistic analysis, stylistic approach, extracurricular communication and interaction. Concepts that each participant should utilize to create, under the guidance of the instructor, their own photographic “body” during a demanding day-to-day photography in the heart of Athens.
The first day of the workshop will present relevant theory and will teach narrative techniques, subject and photographic approach analysis, journalistic research and documentation, methods of communication with the subject, as well as ethic issues. The next day is entirely devoted to an 8-hour field photography with the instructor and workshop assistant providing on-site continuous guidance and support. On the third day, back at the school, the resulting images will be presented, with the focus on editing, captioning and accompanying text, as well as promoting the photographic work.
